Rest in Peace, Stewart Wieck

Stewart Wieck is one of the most famous American game designers of roleplaying games. He is well known as the co-founder of both White Wolf Magazine and White Wolf Publishing. He was the co-creator, with Mark Rein·Hagen, of the World of Darkness and a lot of related game lines, especially Vampire: The Masquerade and Mage: The Ascension. He co-edited the 1998 book The Essential World of Darkness, a collection of novels and also contributed fiction to several novels or anthologies published by White Wolf or its Borealis imprint under the pen name “Stewart Von Allmen”.

Stewart Wieck and his brother Steve Wieck had published in 1986 their first work with the adventure The Secret in the Swamp for Villains & Vigilantes. The same year the brothers began self-publishing their own magazine, Arcanum, and Stewart soon retitled the magazine as White Wolf. The siblings had befriended the company Lion Rampant, and when that company had financial trouble, White Wolf and Lion Rampant decided to merge into the new White Wolf Game Studio, with Stewart Wieck and Mark Rein·Hagen as co-owners about 20 years. Stewart resigned from White Wolf in 2010, immediately founding the company Nocturnal Media, which picked up White Wolf’s rights to Pendragon. Nocturnal Media publish also some famous games like Gladiator, Deck 100, Gunman’s Law, Talislanta, Sword & Sorcery, Long Live The King and the famous Spanish roleplaying games Mark of East and Aquelarre.

Stewart is one of the biggest authors in roleplaying games.
